Coca‑Cola Beverages Sri Lanka Ltd. wins ‘Iconic Rooftop Solar Project of the Year’ at Annual Solar Awards 2021
January 22nd, 2022 - Colombo: Coca‑Cola Beverages Sri Lanka Ltd. (CCBSL) won the award for the ‘Iconic Rooftop Solar Project of the Year’ at the Annual Solar Awards 2021 hosted by EQ at the occasion of the PV Invest Tech Sri Lanka in Colombo recently.
The award was presented in recognition of CCBSL’s significant contribution of installing one of the largest single location rooftop solar projects in the country at its facility in Biyagama. The mega installation was a part of the CCBSL’s pledge towards sourcing renewable energy and contributing to combating climate change. The project showcased a significant investment of over Rs.200 million and comprised the installation of over 5,000 solar panels covering as much as 80% of the roof at its premises. This capacity enhancement enables CCBSL to generate 2,733 MWh/yr of renewable energy to contribute to the national grid and is expected to produce 1.9 Mw of electricity. It’s also expected to reduce the company’s carbon emissions by approximately 1.94 MT per annum.

This mega rooftop solar installation, while powering the company towards achieving carbon neutrality status in due course, will also contribute towards the country’s power generation needs through much-needed renewable electricity to the national grid. It further supports the national vision of using 100% renewable energy by the year 2050 and contributes to Climate Action - Sustainable Development Goal 13, and Coca‑Cola’s goal to reduce total Green House Gas emissions across its global value chain by 25% by 2030”.
