OUR WATER SECURITY STRATEGY

Much more than an essential ingredient in our beverages, water is vital for people to live and for our planet and ecosystems to thrive. As water scarcity increases due to climate change, we are taking steps to help improve water security where we operate, source ingredients and touch people’s lives.

Water is a priority for The Coca‑Cola Company because it is essential to life, our beverages and the communities we serve. It is also critical to public health, food security, biodiversity and the climate crisis.

Our mission at The Coca‑Cola Company is to ‘refresh the world and make a difference’ and water sits at the centre of this: water is the first ingredient in most of our drinks, it is central to our manufacturing process, and it is vital for growing the agricultural ingredients on which we rely.

Water security is being impacted by climate change, as seen through recurrent floods and droughts on our planet, and demands for safe, usable water are exceeding supply in certain areas. We know the two are intrinsically linked, and so our work with water is strongly connected to our climate targets. We have operations nearly everywhere in the world—in more than 200 countries and territories. That means we have a responsibility to help those who face water scarcity and to protect local water resources where we operate, especially in places with the biggest challenges.

Our 2030 Water Security Strategy is focused on accelerating the actions needed to increase water security where we operate, source ingredients and touch people’s lives. We do that by contributing toward sustainable, clean water access that improves livelihoods and wellbeing while helping protect against waterrelated disasters. We understand water challenges are different in each region, so we are focused on doing what matters most locally, where the challenges are greatest.
