Every year, more than 31,000 full-time and part-time students come to George Brown College to obtain an education that will help them succeed in their future careers. Dedicated to producing work-ready graduates, George Brown has earned a reputation for developing the kind of employees that are in demand by employers.
George Brown College Foundation
The George Brown College Foundation, established in 1984, is the primary fundraising vehicle for the College. It is an incorporated registered charity and is guided by a volunteer Board of Directors from the corporate and community sectors.
George Brown College is committed to providing the highest possible calibre of education to its students and to making its programs accessible to all. The Foundation helps the College achieve this goal by raising money to support student success through scholarships and bursaries, as well as through larger initiatives that strengthen the College’s ability to offer programs for specific industries and professions.
In 2015, The Coca‑Cola Foundation chose to honour the legacy of Nicola Kettlitz by providing 20 first generation learners at George Brown College with the gift of education. An investment of US $50,000 helped to break down the financial barriers that can so often keep young people from completing their post-secondary education and achieving their goals.
The Coca‑Cola Nicola Kettlitz Memorial Award commemorates the late Nicola Kettlitz, former President of Coca‑Cola Ltd., who passed away in March 2015. Nicola worked with the company for 24 years and had a positive, long-lasting impact on the lives he touched.
The Coca‑Cola Nicola Kettlitz Memorial Award is given to full-time students in financial need, who demonstrate leadership and community involvement, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. In the 2020 academic year, another $50,000 was given through the award to 20 students.
Each year the George Brown College Awards Office receives over 9,000 scholarship applications. And, although the George Brown College Foundation annually secures over a million dollars in financial aid thanks to the support of companies like Coca‑Cola, only one in four applicants are successful. We’re therefore proud to continue our partnership with the George Brown College Foundation to honour the memory of Nicola Kettlitz and to ensure more students receive the financial support they need to complete their post-secondary education.
