The Biggest Technology Trends of 2017 and Beyond

29-03-2017

Technology, big data, artificial intelligence. Are you feeling a bit uneasy yet?

You wouldn’t be the only one. A 2015 survey of 1500 adults found technology to be our second biggest fear category, the cause of a chill more unnerving than crime, government and even death.

But on a planet with almost as many mobile phones as there are human beings, have we turned a blind eye to the way technology not only improves our lives but also our world?

The Future Looks Smart

From hackathons to apps and clever vending machines, The Coca‑ColaCompany isn’t afraid to play in the technology arena.

But where is it all going?

We sat down with Jason Hosking, CEO and founding director of HIVERY to explore the biggest tech trends of 2017 and beyond.

1.     Smart cars

According to Jason autonomous vehicles, otherwise known as self-driving cars, are on the way – but not within the next few years.

But this won’t stop consumers from increasingly demanding smarter cars, Jason said. “I think we’re going to see the uptake of some of the important but perhaps less sexy solutions like auto-braking and assisted crash avoidance,” Jason said.

“We’re also going to figure out how to make existing cars smarter, using software to add intelligence to any car.”

2.     Alternative worlds

For Jason one thing is for certain: we will spend more of our time in alternative worlds.

“Virtual reality has entered the mass market. Most of us are finally getting our first taste and we’re going to be hooked.

“With augmented reality games on the rise we’re going to be spending less and less time in the real world. Imagine a world where the news you consume allows you to enter a war-torn area and experience this situation for yourself. It’s not as far away as you think,” he said.

3.     Life on Mars

There’s been no shortage of space movies over the past few years, perhaps for good reason.

“I would love to see advances in the space exploration work of Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos.

“Sooner or later we’re going to be able to live on and explore other planets. Humanity will have its plan B,” Jason said.

4.     The role of artificial intelligence

As chief operating officer and co-founder of HIVERY, Franki Chamaki a firm believer in the use of artificial intelligence to answer what he calls “problems worth solving”.

“If we embrace questioning and question why things exist and how they could be done better, this leads us into the world of artificial intelligence. It’s all about challenging human biases and assumptions to look at big problems differently,” Franki said.

“How can we use data to transform industries? To improve hospitals and the prescription of medicine? That is what we do at HIVERY.

“By designing self-learning algorithms and embracing an experimental mindset we can help answer quite complex questions,” he said.
