Notes of Kindness moderation guide
The following principles have been used to provide guidance to moderators who will be asked to determine whether to approve a proposed Note of Kindness for projection onto the Emporium billboard site.
As an overarching principle, the moderator has asked themselves “Would a reasonable person on the street find this term offensive, controversial or in bad taste? Does this fall outside the values of The Coca‑Cola Company?”
If the answer is “Yes” then the moderator will reject the requested Note of Kindness message. In reaching this decision, the moderator will not approve notes, names or terms which refer to:
- Race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability in a negative or critical light;
- Acts of physical or emotional violence (for example, abuse, death, sexual assault, serial killings or massacres);
- The Coca‑Cola brand in a critical or derogatory way (for example, “Thank you Coke for giving me diabeties”, “Thank you for giving me tooth decay”);
- Illegal activity (for example, illicit drug references and names of famous criminals and their victims);
- Terrorism or extremist ideologies (for example, “”);
- Coarse, profane or controversial themes (for example, abortion, euthanasia, homophobic sentiment or words related to themes such as these);
- Celebrities or public figures (for example, Beyoncé, Blair Cottrel, Barnababy, Fred Nile);
- Brands, characters, franchises, organisations, or third parties
- Children or references to anything that has strong appeal to children
- Any code-like or cryptic messaging
- Tonal concerns such as aggression
